"The High Line began as an audacious dream, and it thrives today because of our unwavering dedication to its vital mission. We're proud to broaden our impact, from fostering urban ecology and climate resiliency to empowering young people with essential STEAM education and championing infrastructure reuse globally. It's all about forging a greener, more connected future for all New Yorkers, and beyond.”

About Friends of the High Line

Friends of the High Line is the nonprofit conservancy that created, maintains, and fundraises for the High Line—a 1.5-mile elevated park built on a historic freight rail line on Manhattan’s West Side. What began as a grassroots effort by two Chelsea residents to save an abandoned structure has become one of the world’s most iconic examples of infrastructure reuse, inspiring many similar projects globally. The High Line’s native and climate-resilient gardens are home to more than 500 species of plants and trees, support 33 bee species and a variety of native birds, and provide a vibrant respite in a community historically lacking public green space. Friends of the High Line also helps shape the future of infrastructure reuse through the High Line Network and the Public Space Alliance.

Rivian Foundation's grant

Rivian Foundation’s support is helping Friends of the High Line to advance STEAM-focused environmental education and fellowships that build pathways into art, civic engagement, and sustainability careers. It is also supporting Friends of the High Line’s urban greenspace stewardship efforts, including a major horticulture initiative on urban ecology, a propagation facility growing native seedlings for schools and gardens, and peer-to-peer learning across 46 infrastructure reuse projects through the High Line Network.
