"Climate change has the ability to separate us from our culture. This land is part of my being, every part of my being. It’s a birthright, and it’s part of the natural world. Where our rice beds are—the plants, the animals, the medicines, the trees themselves—that’s us as a people.”

Rivian Foundation's grant

Rivian Foundation's support is helping NICC to expand its portfolio of tribal carbon projects, helping to ensure that these initiatives have substantial environmental and social impacts. This support will enable NICC to work to meet the growing demand from Tribal nations for assistance in navigating carbon credit markets while also scaling educational efforts and creating financial models that align with Tribal development goals. By enhancing the economic assets of Indian landowners and strengthening the sovereignty of Tribal lands, Rivian Foundation’s support is contributing to advancing NICC’s mission to protect ecosystems and reinforce Indigenous identity and community resilience.
