“Being on the River has given me the opportunity to learn more about our community, our habitat, and our environment and how to make it better.  I was afraid of the water before and now I tell my family we should enjoy the only River we have in Seattle and we should all advocate for a full cleanup of the River and our air!”

About Duwamish River Community Coalition

The Duwamish River Community Coalition (DRCC) leads community-driven conservation efforts along the Duwamish Valley in Seattle, focusing on river restoration, climate justice, youth leadership, and environmental advocacy. Since the Duwamish River was designated a Superfund site in 2001, DRCC has been at the forefront of addressing the environmental injustices that have disproportionately impacted local communities where over 70% of residents live below the poverty line. DRCC continues to unite the community in advocating for environmental justice and safeguarding their land and water.

Rivian Foundation's grant

Rivian Foundation funding is helping DRCC to expand community development initiatives, expose more individuals to green career opportunities, and to grow its youth internship program. It will also help DRCC to advance efforts to ensure a thorough cleanup of the Superfund site, to keep local communities informed about remediation plans, and to continue to protect disadvantaged communities from further pollution and environmental harm.
