“Incredibly wild and unimaginably beautiful, Oregon’s high desert is rich with biodiversity, a deep cultural history and an abundance of truly breathtaking landscapes worthy of the highest levels of protections. We are committed to protecting, defending and restoring millions of acres of public lands in this special region so they are forever here for all to enjoy.”

About Oregon Natural Desert Association

Founded in 1987, the mission of the Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) is to protect, defend and restore Oregon’s high desert. ONDA works across eight million acres of eastern Oregon’s most ecologically important public lands. These lands provide climate resiliency, essential habitat for fish and wildlife, and healthy natural environments. ONDA’s notable accomplishments include establishing Oregon’s first desert wilderness areas, expanding Wild and Scenic River designations, and conserving millions of acres of desert public lands. ONDA now leads the Owyhee Canyonlands National Monument campaign, representing 22 million individuals.

Rivian Foundation's grant

Rivian Foundation’s support is helping ONDA to permanently protect 1.1 million acres of the Owyhee Canyonlands and support Tribal management priorities on nearly 30,000 acres. This funding will also help conserve 550,000 acres of wildlife habitat in the Greater Hart-Sheldon area, protect hundreds of river miles, mobilize 50,000 conservation advocates, and support stream habitat restoration in partnership with Tribes and other land managers.
