"The fight to protect our ocean and coasts is taking on a new urgency driven by climate change. Surfrider's Climate Action Program, focused on nature-based solutions, is empowering our local chapters across the country to restore vital ecosystems— mangroves, dunes, and salt marshes— to act as natural defenses against rising seas and storm surge, protecting our shorelines and the communities that call them home."
Rivian Foundation's grant
Rivian Foundation's support is helping Surfrider Foundation advance its Climate Action Program in Southern California, which applies nature-based solutions to fight climate change and improve resilience to climate impacts and sea level rise. This support will enable Surfrider Foundation to restore ten acres of coastal dunes, riparian habitats, and wetlands across Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego Counties. Additionally, it will help complete the Surfers' Point Coastal Adaptation Project in Ventura County and design a nature-based adaptation strategy for San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County. By implementing successful coastal resilience projects, Rivian Foundation’s support will contribute to Surfrider Foundation’s demonstration of scalable models for protecting and preserving our coasts.
