"Openlands has always been dedicated to connecting people with nature. From protecting open space, to planting and preserving trees across the region, to ensuring access to Chicago’s iconic lakefront trails, our work reflects a belief that nature is essential to a healthy environment, a strong economy, and high quality of life. This support strengthens our commitment to building resilient communities where people and nature thrive together."

Rivian Foundation's grant
Rivian Foundation’s support will help Openlands to train 200 TreeKeepers and plant more than 2,400 trees in low-canopy neighborhoods, while graduating two new cohorts from the Arborist Registered Apprenticeship Program. The grant will also support prairie and wetland restoration at Beaubien Woods, launch an In-Lieu Fee wetlands mitigation program with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, renovate up to nine schoolyards and revive six school gardens lost during COVID-19, and foster environmental literacy, climate resilience, and outdoor access for Chicago Public School students and communities.
