Conservation

Healthy ecosystems underpin the flourishing of all life on earth. They support clean air and water, the food we eat, biodiversity, and countless livelihoods dependent on natural resources. To address the threats these systems face, we support land and ocean conservation that enables a healthy future for all. We also support programs that help communities access and connect with the outdoors so that everyone can experience the benefits of nature.
Priorities
Land and ocean protection
The Rivian Foundation supports efforts designed to secure durable, legal protections for critical ecosystems, wildlands, and marine environments.
Land and ocean restoration
The Rivian Foundation supports efforts to revitalize degraded ecosystems, restore biodiversity, and repair vital ecological processes on land and at sea.
Connecting communities to nature
We believe that access to the natural world is fundamental. The Rivian Foundation supports grantees that seek to break down systemic barriers to accessing nature so that all people—regardless of background or geography—can experience the physical, mental, and social benefits of the outdoors.

Since its founding in 2007, the Conservation Lands Foundation has been instrumental in expanding protections for millions of acres of public lands.

Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust
Land and Ocean Restoration
The Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the natural and cultural resources of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Rivian Foundation’s grant supports restoration and preservation of Mosquito Bay, the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world that was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017. This project focuses on the rapid revival of mangroves, seagrasses, and corals to maintain the bay’s bioluminescence, sequester carbon, enhance climate resilience and support local biodiversity. By protecting these ecosystems, the project also helps safeguard the local economy and can serve as a model for restoration across the Caribbean.
